I'm so in love with my natural hair!

I got bored... so i decided to talk about my hair

Flood Update

This thing is going to last a long time...

As of 4:30 PM Tuesday, here is the Garrison release schedule.

Planned releases are subject to change based on changing reservoir and river conditions:

Wednesday AM - 92,500 cfs
Wednesday PM - 100,000 cfs
Note: Controlled Spillway Releases Start Wed.

Thursday AM - 105,000 cfs
Thursday PM - 110,000 cfs

Friday - 115,000 CFS

Saturday Hold At 115,000

Mid June, going to 150,000 cfs

At 150,000 cfs the river stage at Bismarck is forecast to be at 20.6 feet, or 4.69` higher than it is right now. Plan for a 1 foot buffer on all dikes according to officials.

They say they will have to use the spillway gates to release all this water, but it WILL be controlled. The spillway has never been used since the dam opened back in the 1950s.

And our friends up north in Minot are having trouble too.

The Big Cut ----- 100% Natural!

Pre Hair cut

There have been some big changes going on over here in my life.  In October of 2010, I decided to go natural.  No more relaxers for me!  Now I still color my hair, I’ll never stop doing that but it’s the end of the creamy crack for me.  I must admit, I’m one of those chicks who hates short hair, so I just opted to just let it grow out and try to camouflage the new growth and the relaxed hair.  I was getting pretty good at it.  I became an expert on flat twists and Bantu knots.  On occasion, I would flat iron my hair straight and I was so proud on how long it was.

I then noticed that the relaxed hair wouldn’t keep a curl as long as the natural hair would and it often would look like a tangled mess.   I figured I needed to make the big chop and I did! My mom, my aunt and I all went to get our hair did, and wow!  This is 7 months of new growth and I love it.  I found out last night I still can do twists and knots with my hair.  I’ve been getting so many complements on it.  I can’t stop taking pics of myself.

MakeUp is the bomb too!

I know eventually I’ll do some braids and weave, but it’s my hair and I can do what I want to it!

A Pause From The Flood

It is still Memorial Day...

I have been busy, but I won't ever forget.

More Flooding

It may or may not be of interest to some...
I am not trying to compare other disasters, the folks in Joplin had very little warning of the nightmare that occurred there. The folks in Fargo go through this every year...It happened on the Mississippi earlier.
Bismarck to my knowledge has not seen this since 1952, the year before the Garrison Dam was finished.
This water level is at 80,000 cfs coming out of the dam, 150,000 cfs is a shocking number to me.

Trying To Beat The Odds

A few pictures of how high we are being told the water will be in the next few days( in the daughter and son in laws neighborhood) according to the Army Core of Engineers. I will have more later, I am whipped...

Some have already lost the battle and the big releases from the Garrison dam don't start until
tomorrow.

Current release is 80,000 cfs
Monday May 30th 85,000 cfs
Wednesday June 1st 105,000 cfs
Thursday June 2nd 120,000 cfs and hold at this rate for about a week.

150,000 cfs is expected to happen at an un-announced date.

Going Sandbagging (Updated)

Some folks need help.
This is what is headed this way...

Be back later.
Update:
Big flood headed this way, that clip does not do justice to what is headed here. The corp of engineers say they need to double the release of that dam and will open those spillway gates for the first time since the dam was built. Many homes are going under. I will try to post some picture tomorrow.

Rule 5

100 Year Flood Hits Home

Above average snowpack in Montana and heavy rains in the western part of the state have caused a problem in Bismarck N.D.

For those keeping score, I live in Bismarck.

My home is safe, but daughter and son and law(and the 2 grand kids) live right off the river and no doubt will be evacuated (not their house pictured).
The big Lake Sakakawea was running so low 4 years ago new access had to be built for boating. At the time it was said it would take 20 years of above average snow and rain to fill it back up. In just 3 years the lake is just shy of going over the top of Garrison Dam.
To my knowledge the Missouri river has never flooded in Bismarck(with the exception of an ice jam problem 2 years ago) since the Garrison Dam was built in 1953...

Info about Kim K and the engagement…

Ok… I must admit, I got a little down when I found out that Kim Kardashian is engaged to basketball player Kris Humphries.  I thought Kim and I would be single together, or at least I would be taken before her!  I was talking this over with my friend Ashley J. and she gave me the best quote on the situation, “She’s as thirsty as a runner after a 20k.” Well put.

I received a request asking could I write about the engagement and of course the ring.  Here is the 411 on the ring and the engagement.

On May 18th, Humphries proposed to Kim at her Beverly Hills home by placing rose petals on Kim’s bed and spelling out the words: “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” Of course Humphries was down on bended knee.   The ring is a custom designed, 20.5 carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond stunner. The 16.5-carat emerald cut center stone is flanked by a pair of 2-carat trapezoids. The entire family later celebrated with a private celebration at the family home. All the scenes will be featured on the reality show Keeping Up with The Kardashians next season.

Facts Revealed: Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides

Joining the crew for "On Stranger Tides" is Oscar-winning actress Penelope Cruz, who plays Blackbeard's daughter Angelina. She trained with the stunt crew for two months before shooting to prepare for the sword fights. However, she was pregnant during the actual production. That meant the costumers had to alter her outfits every three weeks to accommodate her growing baby bump. And for some of the more strenuous shots, her sister Monica stepped in as her double.

For the lush jungle scenes in the movie, the production moved to site of what used to be the Coco Palms Hotel. The resort was where Elvis Presley filmed his 1961 movie "Blue Hawaii," but it was shut down after a hurricane hit in 1992. For the safety of the cast and crew, the coconuts from 773 palms had to be harvested to make sure they didn't fall on anyone working below. The coconuts were then donated to the locals.

In the first movie, Jack's ship, the Black Pearl, was actually just a set built on top of a barge. It wasn't until the second movie that a full wooden ship was constructed on top of a modern steel boat. The Pearl doesn't play a role in the fourth movie, so it was sailed 2400 nautical miles from California to Hawaii where it was turned into Blackbeard's ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge. The rebuilt ship stood three-and-a-half stories tall and weighed 100 tons more than it did as the Pearl.

While much of the first three movies was actually shot in the Caribbean, filming on the fourth took place mostly in Hawaii. The first day of shooting took place on the protected Honopu Beach on the island of Kauai. There are no roads to the beach, and boats aren't even allowed to dock there. So Johnny Depp had to arrive for work via helicopter in full costume and makeup. The crew mostly came in on Jet Skis, but since even those watercraft weren't allowed to stop, they had to jump off before they got to shore.

Captain Jack Sparrow is unfurling his sails for a fourth time this weekend in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides." The movie brings back several characters from the original trilogy, but it tells a standalone story about Jack's quest for the Fountain of Youth. And it's different from the earlier movies in that it weaves in real historical figures as characters. But it does play around with the dates when those actual people were alive.

In the movie, Ian McShane plays Blackbeard, who was a real pirate -- his given name was Edward Teach -- and commanded the ship "Queen Anne's Revenge" in Caribbean waters. Also depicted in the movie in King George II (played by Richard Griffiths) and his Prime Minister Henry Pelham. But Blackbeard was killed off the coast of North Carolina in 1718, and George II did not take the throne until 1727, nine years later. Plus, Pelham was not in office until 1743, 25 years after Blackbeard's death.
Still, you can't really fault a movie that has zombies, mermaids, and hero who was once eaten by a sea monster for not sticking closely to the historical record. Click ahead to read more tidbits about "On Stranger Tides."

Special Ed

President Obama is going to be visiting Joplin, Mo., on Sunday but you know what they’re talking about, like this right-wing slut, what’s her name?, Laura Ingraham? Yeah, she’s a talk slut. You see, she was, back in the day, praising President Reagan when he was drinking a beer overseas. But now that Obama’s doing it, they’re working him over.

I won't be holding my breath for any apologies, from special ed or what ever radio show airs this idiot rat bastard...

Obamanomics

Labor market improves.

Uh, with a catch...
But there’s a catch. The quality of the jobs the U.S. is creating right now in terms of pay, benefits, hours, and skills leaves a lot to be desired. The problem is not only the depth of the recession and the sluggishness of the recovery. It also reflects the changing structure of the U.S. economy, as more manufacturing operations shift to overseas locations, while service businesses, which often pay much less, take a more dominant role in job creation.
The tax code in this country encourages companies to manufacture overseas, couple that with overpaid union wages and we have a McDonald's economy. Not to disparage Mickey D's, I personally  dine there on occasion, but those jobs are not meant to sustain a economy.

Barry and his crew will see to it nothing changes...
Keep the folks down, dumb and on the dole you know.

The Government Accountability Office, in a report being released Tuesday, said at least 3,700 government contractors and nonprofit organizations that received more than $24 billion from the stimulus effort owed $757 million in back taxes as of Sept. 30, 2009, the end of the budget year.

How To Grow Your Congregation

This Pastor knows...

“It’s not about the Baptists, not about the Catholics alone, or the Lutherans, or the Evangelicals, or any other denomination, but rather the head of the denomination, and his name is Jesus, as every president up until 2008 has acknowledged,” Dean said. “And we pray it in Jesus’ name.”

Raising Cain

Until someone else suits up who changes my mind, Herman Cain is my favorite...

Herman makes it official.
(Stockbridge, GA) — Business executive and conservative leader Herman Cain announced his bid for the Republican presidential nomination today at a large public rally at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
“After prayerful consideration with my family and closest friends, I have decided to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States,” Cain said. “I look forward to continuing my travels across the country, engaging in discussions with the American people about the concerns facing our nation and sharing my ‘common sense solutions’ with them.”
