Dallas Apparel & Accessories Market Experience

I must apologize lovelies… I have had the week from hell (but I’ll save that for a video blog.)

Anyhoo…

I got the chance to experience the frenzy that is the Dallas Market.  If you don’t know about the market, let me tell you it’s awesome.  It’s a chance for stores, boutiques, spas and others of the like to purchase clothing and accessories to sell in stores. Market is the mecca of all clothes and shopping (well in my mind it was.)

I got a chance to be a guest of the lovely Danette Wicker of Danette’s Urban Oasis.  I was warned by Danette to wear sneakers and I knew then that this was going to be a serious shopping experience. Be warned, if you do anything with Danette, you better be ready because she is in full business mode the second she walks in the building. There are countless vendors, special events and seminars that you can take part in to help you better your business.

We took part of a tour with Rawlins Gilliland later on in the afternoon.  Rawlins is a little spark of a man, and he knows everything about the fashion industry.  Rawlins, a former employee of Neiman Marcus, will keep you on your toes.  Rawlings showed us lines that we should be paying attention to and products that are guaranteed to sell in stores.

I was pretty much worn out at the end of the day. It’s a lot of walking but all the clothes that you get to see, just amazing. We also got a chance to meet some up and coming designers whose work will be spotlighted on Pop Culture Fashionista.  Some of the stuff that they put out is AMAZING. Lots of funky, fun stuff that no one else will have.

I didn’t mention that in the afternoon they pass out snacks and drinks… and sometimes its adult drinks.

If you get a chance to go apparel & accessories market in your city, GO! If it’s your first time, you will be worn out by the end of the day.  It took me a day for my legs to recover. It was worth it.

Returns and Bridesmaids!

Last Saturday was filled with so much fun and good times, I couldn’t just contain it all in one blog.   The first part of my Saturday was the DFW Blogger meet up and the second part was returning clothes and catching a show.  Aunt K and I had to go see Bridesmaid. Kristen Wiig is freakin hilarious.  She is one of the most underrated actresses/ comedians on SNL.  Old Navy was doing the dollar flip flops for people who are card holders and AK went to the store while I was at the blogger event to pick me up some shoes.  She also picked herself up a sweater which they left the security tag on so we had to go back.

I have a problem with Old Navy; I can never go in there and not find something.  We headed towards the sale section and I found some cute t-shirts that had flower embellishment on the shoulder area.  They were thin and light, perfect for Texas weather.  I also found a striped t-shirt that was the cheapest thing of the day and a pair of shorts that I would like to do some kind of embellishment to… I just don’t know what yet.

We went to the Movie Tavern in Bedford to catch a viewing of Bridesmaids.  I can’t go to a regular theater any more to watch a film; I gotta go to a tavern or a grill to watch the movie. I like and adult beverage with my movie (sometimes it makes a suck ass movie better.)  Bridesmaids was freaking comedy all the way around.  From the first five minutes til the end of the movie, I was cracking up laughing.  This movie is like the Hangover for chicks.  It’s one of the great movies that I want to see over and over again and that’s rare for me.  It’s great to see a female comedy that is smart and actually funny and Kristen Wiig wrote the screen play!  The supporting cast is amazing! Melissa McCarthy, from Gilmore Girls, is so comedy in this movie.  I really wasn’t expecting the level of hilarity from her!  Laughs all around and I can’t wait to see it again.  Everyone should go see this movie!

Famous $25 dress

Drum roll please and a round of applause goes to …. Drew Barrymore for wearing the $25 (from a vintage store in Austin, TX) dress proudly. I absolutely get frustrated when people feel if you are not wearing hundreds of dollars on each sleeve or you’re not covered in name brand clothes from top to both that you don’t have any style. Please don’t get me wrong, designer clothes are awesome but the reality is that not everyone can afford name brand clothes. Many who still can’t afford name brand clothes struggle to buy them only because they feel the need to clone everyone else. I have many friends who can shop at Payless and come out looking fierce. It’s not always about how much you pay for things it all about how you wear something, matching the right items together, and accessorizing. Working with what you have instead of buying more expensive items is important in this culture today, especially the way the economy is. Now I know she was rocking a pair of $760 pair of pumps but she wasn’t afraid to wear a dress that wasn’t equivalent in price. This shows her bold side and I for one like it and wish we would see this more often. Oh and check out the movie trailer "Going the Distance" with our famous Drew in it coming out September 3!
